Mike Lane-Evans
Founder & Managing Director

I spent 26 years as an actor on stage, screen and radio. From the outside it looked great. On the inside I felt stuck. I worked hard, prepared well, and still left auditions knowing I hadn’t shown all of me. My intentions and my impact just didn’t match.

That gap is something I see everywhere. A UK study showed 83% of people believe poor communication is the biggest cause of failure at work.
In 2018 I started working with the British military as a communication trainer. I saw how simple tools could help people stay calm under pressure. They can also help people speak with confidence and really connect with others. That was the moment I knew I had found the work I wanted to do.
Since then I’ve trained as an ICF accredited coach and worked with more than 800 people. Founders raising investment. Leaders at JP Morgan, Barclays and Dunelm. Teams trying to fix broken meetings. What I love most is the moment someone realises they can do more than they thought. They speak, people listen, and everything changes.

I started out as an actor, appearing in shows like Doctor Who and Eastenders. Performing was exciting, yet I realised what I enjoyed most was helping others grow in confidence. I wanted to take the skills I had and use them to support people in finding their own voice.

That drive led me into training and facilitation. Over the last ten years I have worked with organisations such as PwC, KPMG, EY, Natwest and Barclays. I was also part of the team that created the Skills Builder Framework, which is now used around the world to help people develop essential skills.

At Forefront my focus is on designing programmes that really work for the people in the room. I care about making communication feel less intimidating and more practical. Whether it is a meeting that runs smoother or someone finally feeling confident to speak up, those small shifts are the changes that matter most to me.

Rachel Winters
Associate Coach

I trained as an actor at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and spent the first part of my career performing with companies like the Royal Shakespeare Company, Shakespeare’s Globe and the BBC. Acting was and still is a huge part of my life, and I also love helping others find their voice through workshops and coaching.

For more than fifteen years I have worked as an education practitioner across the UK, running programmes at Shakespeare’s Globe and Central, and founding Rachel Winters Shakespeare Workshops. I specialise in creating spaces where people can explore language, presence and confidence in ways that feel practical and human.

At Forefront I bring that same approach to coaching. I work with individuals and teams who want to feel more confident in high-stakes moments, manage difficult conversations with care, or simply connect better with the people around them. My focus is always on helping people build skills they can use every day, whether they are stepping onto a stage or into a meeting room.

Lizzie Twells
Associate Coach

I trained in Acting at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and have spent over 15 years working in theatre, TV and film. Alongside performing, I built a career as a coach and facilitator, working with people in the public, private and charity sectors.

I give people a safe space to explore how they communicate and to test new approaches. My feedback is clear and practical, focused on what will make the biggest difference, and always delivered with care.

At Forefront I specialise in Managing Difficult Conversations. I help people find the confidence to step into tough situations, listen with care and lead conversations that build trust rather than break it.

I am also proud to mentor with Arts Emergency, a charity that helps young people from diverse backgrounds build futures in the arts and humanities.
